Prof. Asish K. Bhattacharyya is an expert in accounting and control, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management, with over 53 years of experience as a management professional, academic leader, and boardroom advisor across corporate leadership, academia, governance, and executive education. He retired as Distinguished Professor of Finance, Accounting, and Control at Shiv Nadar University (Institution of Eminence) in December 2025.
At present, Prof. Bhattacharyya is focusing on management consulting and executive development programmes for managers and board members, leveraging his extensive expertise in corporate financial reporting, management accounting, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management.
In 2020, he founded Nonlinear Insights (OPC) Private Limited, dedicated to producing textbooks in finance, accounting, and management for college and university students.
Prof. Bhattacharyya has held significant leadership roles in industry and academia, including serving as a professor at IIM Calcutta, SPJIMR Mumbai, and IICA (Manesar), Technical Director at ICAI, and Director at IMI Kolkata and IMT Ghaziabad.
He led the Centre of Corporate Governance at IIM Calcutta and was the founding Professor & Head of the School of Corporate Governance and Public Policy at IICA. He also served as Senior Advisor at KPMG.
Prof. Bhattacharyya has extensive boardroom experience as an Independent Director across multiple sectors, including a public-sector enterprise (2008-2023), listed private-sector companies (2004-2021), and an asset management company (2001-2020).
A Fellow of ICAI and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, and an Associate of CIMA (UK), he holds a D.Phil. from the University of Allahabad. He has authored 15 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles.
